Referral (Olivia)

Prompt: Kathryn meets Olivia someplace due to her music teacher's (Matilda Wells) referral

Okay let's see here, I'm supposed to meet a girl named...what was her name? Caitlin? No. Katie? No that's not it. Kaeshira. Not even close. I roll over and punch Abigail in the arm, she groans “What Liv?” Abbie sits up and rubs her eyes “what's the name of the girl in meeting today.” I ask flatley “Kathryn. That it? can I go back to sleep?” I nod and climb out of the bed then search through the dresser and find a pair of boxers, a green cap sleeves tee shirt, and a purple skirt that has slight sparkles in it, along with a pair of socks and sneakers. I brush my hair and do a crown braid in my short brown hair. I go into the Thieves guild cistern and grab breakfast. Runs greets me “Hey Olivia.” He says in passing “Hey is for horses Rune c’mon get things together mate.” I yell back to him, I hear laughing in reply. I grab my notes and the bag with my insulin and medications in it, sling it over my shoulder and climb up the rickety ladder that leads to the surface of Riften, I pull the chain and the stone covering slides back. I bound up the steps and walk into the middle of the cemetery. There's a priestess standing watching me, they seem confused and slightly scared “H-Hi.” I wave and then clutch my stuff to me and walk away awkwardly. Good job Liv. I walk over to the main Inn that's located in the center of Riften and sit down at a table, Marcurio comes over and sits “Why hello there Ms. Curtin, still haven't thought differently about my offer?” He asks. I scoff “I've already told you this I'm. Not. Interested.” Marcurio smirks “Ya sure. We could have a good time.” I roll my eyes “No thanks.” He presses on still “You sure???” I lose my patience then “I'm not interested you bastard I like girls!!!!” I yell at him. He puts his hands up in defense “woah okay calm down jeez I'll stop.” He gets up and walks over to the bench he usually sits at, mercenaries humph, I cross my arms and wait. Eventually two women who I've never seen before enter the Inn and judging by my notes they seem to be the ones I was waiting for. I usher them over and they sit “Greetings, my name is Olivia Curtin, I believe we’re supposed to be meeting? Correct me if I'm wrong and I shall leave you alone. But if you are in fact Matilda Wells and Kathryn we can go somewhere else and meet.” The two take in my words and respond, the older one holds out her hand “I am Matilda Wells, and this is indeed Kathryn. Pleasure to meet you. I'm Kathryn's flute teacher” Kathryn scoffs, huh odd. I notice the insulin pump on her arm. I was supposed to get one of those but never did. I lead them up the stairs and into a private meeting room that is reserved for us. They sit down at the rectangle table. I sit opposite with my notes in front of me “Now Kathryn-” I begin, “I’d like to talk about a certain encounter with a young woman named Caitlin Netherfield.” Kathryn's pupils dilate “What about her?” I remain composed and calm, watched enough Law and Order to know what to do and the fact that I'm minoring in legal studies. “So I'm aware that she was teaching at your school not long ago, and heard that you said some ‘unkind things’ to her. Care to explain?” I remain stonic and unwavering. “Who did you hear that from?!” Kathryn seems angry, well I wonder why. “My sources are not to be revealed, for legal and personal matters. But please, continue.” She gives me an icy smile “I didn't say anything.” Kathryn smirks. Mrs Wells speaks out now “Yes you did Kathryn, I know you did. Caitlin herself told me.” I write some things down “Please Mrs Wells, if you could elaborate?” She smiles “Call me Matilda dear.” I give a slight smile “very well, Matilda, if you could please continue.” Matilda nods and takes a breath “I had a meeting the other day with Caitlin and Steve, they explained the situation. Kathryn said some things that were unkind and unacceptable, for example she thought Caitlin's flapping was ‘disturbing’.” “I did not! You can't prove that!” Kathryn bangs on the table. “Actually I can very well prove that. I was sent a copy of the video footage from the time Caitlin was teaching and witnessed the fact that what your teacher said is very well true. And I personally find that behavior offensive.” Kathryn glares at me “How?” I pull out my wallet and take out a picture of my sister, my youngest sibling “You see this girl? She's autistic, and she's my sister.” Kathryn interjects “Well I have diabetes!” I stand up and show her my arm and the injection marks from this morning along with the insulin monitor in my pocket “So do I! Sit down.” Kathryn groans and looks at her teacher, who places a hand on her shoulder. “I'm sorry Ms Curtin. This is very out of character of Kathryn.” Matilda seems tired, I wonder why. I write a few more things down then gather my papers and stuff them in my bag standing up “I believe that will be all for now, thank you both for meeting with me today. Now if you'll excuse me if best be going on my way.” I tip them my hat politely and exit the room bounding down the stairs two at a time I shove open the door, stop by the market place on my way back to the thieves guild and then make my way finally back to the secret hideout. I plop onto a chair throwing my stuff down “you okay lass?” Brynjolf asks looking at me “Longest legal meeting of my life. Ugh.” And to think-
That was just a referral.

I need to go to sleep.
Until next time,
Max

  1. Matilda deals with worse all the time--in both students and teachers. Teachers generally have a penchant for meeting interesting people.

    1. Livvy usually deals with worse things as well, meaning anything from thugs to Falmer and the randomly appearing dragon. Tamriels an interesting continent. Highly varied from country to country.

    2. Conclusions I drew from the Interaction

      1. Kathryn's pump was being weird and thus delivered the insulin incorrectly, which affected her mood.

      2. Matilda, as a private teacher, only sees Kathryn in one setting and bases all impressions of her off of encounters in one setting and context only.

    3. Okay, I have a friend with a pump and that can happen. Olivia takes insulin via injection, though originally supposed to get a pump, didn't end up happening.

As my Guidence cousler said "People lead many lives, one at home, one at school, one with friends. Sometimes those lives intersect, and sometimes they don't."
