My new hearing aids and Roger system came in on Monday and I got fitted for it the other day. It's so cool!! I can take phone calls and it's able to be muted. I can even plug it into my phone or computer and listen to things directly. The best part: there's no static! We even went down to the band room and tested the range of mallets I can hear, and now I can hear a few notes higher than I can without them which is really awesome because playing mallets then things suddenly going silent is very disorienting and confusing. The receiver is transparent blue and the transmitter is bright red (see images) I'm really excited for this new technology it's a much better improvement than my old system. I love it already!!
Since this system is owned by the school we went with the slim tube and dome so it can be a "one size fits all" kind of thing but after I graduate and have my own pair my Teacher of the Deaf and hard of hearing wants me to get them with earhooks and ear molds for a better and more personal fit. How do earmolds work by the way? How are they made?
Until next time,
Max

ReplyDeleteFabulous - especially the part about being able to hear more mallets.
And hooray for no static! There is a lot of natural static in the environment.
Wahoo!

I hope someone comes here who knows about earmolds.
Mallets are good to hear. And instead of bells I'm doing a piece on marimba or vibes for my wind Ensamble piece.
DeleteNo static is probably one of the biggest improvements, everything is so much clearer!
Me too, I might email Kathryn about it because I know she has a hearing aid.
To make earmolds they put this putty type stuff in your ear and then it hardens and they take it out and send it to the company.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathryn! Thank you for the explanation. When they put the putty stuff in does it feel strange? How long does it take to harden?
DeleteThis is an unrelated question but how's university going?
I guess it kind of does, but I've had it done for over a decade now so it doesn't feel weird to me. If I had to guess I'd say 10 minutes, I'm not sure I've never counted. And great
DeleteOkay. That's good that things are going well.
