Memory mishap (Valan)

Due to an ask on tumblr about “What would Valan do if something happened to Yuuri and he didn't remember Valan.” Here's this, but I'll say this: THIS IS BY NO MEANS CANON AS I CARE TOO MUCH ABOUT THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO DISSOLVE IT. It's simply an angst request.

Without further adieu here's this.

Hmm, I haven't seen Yuuri for weeks, I hope he's alright. “Hey Sam!” I call to Sammie who's on the computer in the other room. “What?” I poke my head into the room “You haven't seen Yuuri lately have you?” She turns around and shakes her head “Nope. I'm getting a bit worried to be honest, it's not like him to go off without word. If anything that's something you'd do.” Well that is not a good sign, he's supposed to be the rational one who doesn't go missing! I go grab my coat from the rack and put in my shoes “I'll be back.” I say to Sammie and she stops me asking where I'm going. “I'm going to see if I can find our friend.” She nods and comes back moments later also wearing her coat and shoes,

“I'm coming with you.”

Where on earth could he be? I texted Takayama and he hasn't seen him either, said he just disappeared one day. He suggested we look around any of the caves or crevices in the Ashlands as he already checked any places he'd be within the city. The two of us thank him for the information and get our horses from the stables and head into the Ashlands.

The two of us spend a majority of the day searching until we happen upon a tribe of ashlanders, a group of nomadic Dunmer who inhabit the Ashlands and stick to the traditional way of life passed down from generation to generation. “Excuse me?” Sammie tries to get their attention and an older woman comes over to us “Can I help you?” She asks with a thick accent. “Um we’re looking for a missing friend of ours. You wouldn't have happened to find a young man with black hair tied in a ponytail and a bit taller than the two of us wandering about would you?” She looks at Sam for a moment in silence, “Follow me.” And leads us to a tent where Yuuri lays unconscious and badly bruised. “A scout found him barely conscious and quite dehydrated, as well as badly bruised and torn up clothes. Likely from cliff racers or another animal.” I kneel down and feel his pulse, it's a bit weak but not enough to be deathly concerned. His forehead is warm to the extent of being nearly hot. A thought dawns on me then. Oh dear god- no...no it couldn't be that, it couldn't. I step away from him and quickly rinse my hands “Sam can I talk to you privately for a second?” The older woman leaves going back to whatever she was doing before talking with us. “I think he might have caught the blight from overexposure to the ash.” I whisper to her and her eyes widen as I explain how the symptoms match a presentation of the sickness. Yuuri starts awake and looks around until his eyes settle on us “W-Who are you?!” The two of us look at each other and back at him “We're your friends, remember?” He shakes his head. “I'm Sammie and that's Valan. Ring any bells?” Again Yuuri shakes his head. I feel my pulse quicken, he doesn't remember us.

Yuuri doesn't remember a single thing about us.

I sit by his bed “I'm your friend, Valan. We met at the headquarters of The Morag Tong, an assassin's guild in Balmora. I'm from Sadrith Mora originally and grew up in the imperial city, you and I are best friends.” He turns his head “I'm sorry, but I really have no recollection of meeting either of you.” I sigh and put my face in my hands and mumble for Sam to leave us alone for a few minuites. Yuuri stares at me “Are you okay?” I wipe a few escaped tears from my eyes and shake my head. “Look I know it sounds really odd but trust me we're friends, good friends, I've known you for years and it breaks my heart that you don't remember!” Yuuris lower lip quivers and he leans over and takes a hand and turns my face towards him, looking me in the eyes. “If it's anything worth mentioning you also had or still have a slight crush on me, your uncle told me.” He blushes “What?” I take a breath and sigh “See if this brings back any memories-” I say then told my head and kiss him before pulling away. Yuuri shakes his head and blinks before slapping me “HOW DARE YOU VALAN VELOTHI!!” I hold my stinging cheek with a smirk, at least he's back to his old self. “What did you do?” Sam opens the tent flap and steps in. Yuuri points an accusing finger at me “he kissed me!” Her eyes widen in shock “Oh don't give me that look it brought him back.” I turn to Yuuri “and the only reason I did was because I knew it would snap you out if whatever was messing with your memories. Plus you liked me and don't bother denying it Takayama told me. Besides, you kissed back.” Yuuri crosses his arms and mumbles something. “What was that?” I ask him.

“I said thanks.” Yuuri refuses to look me in the eye, likely out of embarrassment. I clear my throat “Anyways we’re glad you're back and I'm going to go wash my hands and drink a bunch of vodka.” I go to get up but Sammie stops me “The washing your hands part I get but why the vodka?” I shrug “It's a natural sterilizer, so why not?” She steps aside “Carry on.” I'm mostly just glad that memory mishap is over with.
