A bloody predicament (Lanriael)

Ender it's doneeeee

See patients in rooms four, twelve, and sixteen, check. Write prescription for patient in room thirty five, check. Eat lunch...to do later. If I get the chance. The hematology clinic buzzes with its usual business. Nurses running this way and that, being the real heros in a way. Phlebotomists drawing blood from scared, screaming children, or remarkably stoic teenagers. Doctors meet with patients, newer ones like myself look on to the more senior ones, my mother included in the latter. I sit on the nurses station counter looking through reports during the short so called “break” I have. Suddenly my phone vibrates, it's Everan. Getting off the counter I make my way into a hallway outside the clinic.

“Hello?” I ask, wondering what it is Ev wants.
“Lani, I need your help with something. Steve has a bit of an, ahem, how to say this...predicament. One that requires your expertise.” Now what in the world could that mean? “Explain.” I sigh leaning against the wall. Hopefully he's not hurt or anything. That would suck! “Just go text him or something. It's rather important. Ok, I gotta go, see ya later.” Everan hangs up, leaving me thinking what on earth could be the problem. Opening my texts I look up Steve's number, now how do I say this? “Hi Steve.” I type, getting an immediate response. “Ev told me you had a problem, what's going on?” Steve types for a long time, five minutes at least. “I'm intersex, and in the middle of a monthly cycle. I try to hide it as much as possible.” Well that certainly is a predicament. “Does your doctor know? Are you all set for supplies and everything? And how heavy is your bleeding?” Heavy bleeding can lead to quite a few problems, if anyone knows that it'd be me. We get referrals from adolescent medicine all the time for kids who have heavy bleeding, period related or not. “Will Landon think I'm a freak if I tell him?” I read that line over a few times before replying. “No, Landon won't think you're a freak. After all, at the end of the day, you're still you. I think you'll be fine if you tell him. And you're not the only intersex person in the world you know, it may be rare, but you're not the only one. For example, have you ever heard of Vivec?” Besides Lord Vivec I'm not sure I can think of many notable Intersex people in Tamriel, besides a few daedric “princes” which have no actual assigned gender, and appear to their followers as whatever they choose to appear as. “The name sounds familiar. And as for the flor question it's pretty heavy and makes me feel really tired and drained.” Someone taps me on the shoulder and tells me my shift is done for the day, that they have some residents coming in anyways, so I get off early. What an odd stroke of luck. “Ok, so I just got off work, I can come bring you blankets and soup and stuff. If you want I can also grab Carmen and Sarah, they just got a new puppy named Evie.” I text Steve as I pack up my laptop and other materials and begin to walk home. “That sounds great. I love puppies, I have a dog of my own. He's a tamed wolf named Hutch.” I wonder if tamed wolves are at all to the direwolves in game of thrones? I'll have to see myself. Instead of walking to my house, I walk to the smith household. Or I guess because of Sarah, the Smith and Marx household. Knocking on the door firmly I wait for an answer. Carmen opens the door, while Sarah struggles to restrain Evie. “Hey.” Carmen says cheerfully, ignoring the struggling Bosmer in the background. “Hiya Lani.” Sarah says in an obviously stressed voice as the small bulldog moves around in her arms. “Wanna come to minecraft with me and bring the pup?” Carmen runs and gets a leash, puts it on Evie and sets her down, after taking her from what seems to be a very relieved Sarah's arms. “Let's go!”

Wandering until we happen upon Steve address I knock firmly at the door. Steve opens it, clutching a hearing back to his abdomen. “Help has arrived.” He lets us in and then goes and sits on the couch in the living room. Carmen hands me the leash and goes to place a blanket on Steve. “Heard you were in a bit of a bloody predicament. How are you feeling?” She asks him and she smooths out the edges. “I've been quite tired, heavy flow drains me.” I nod, same thing happens to me. “We brought Carmen's puppy if you want to play with her, she's very sweet, but a bit energetic.” Sarah explains gesturing to the dog laying at my feet. Steve smiles “she's cute.” Evie perks up and barks at him. I release the leash and she hops onto the couch and sits in his lap, remaining surprisingly still as he lets her. “Thanks for the help.” Steve seems to be doing a bit better now. “Anytime, periods are bloody awful things to go through. Literally, and figuratively.” The three of us bid goodnight to Steve and take Evie with us, whence back in Alinor we go our seperate ways, Cam and Sarah heading home, I on the other hand, have night shift as well. Now where did I put my stethoscope?
