New York debrief!

I got home from New York yesterday night, it was a bit of a rough night because acid reflux happened and I started choking on it because of my cleft pallete, so I spent the night at Mass eye and ear when we got to Boston. Other than that I had a great time!

Day 1 (Wednesday): My dad and I drove down while my mom and Winston took the train. It was about four to four and a half hours, I listened to music most of the time. We went to Sarabeths midtown for dinner after dropping some rugs with a few dealers in the market. I had tomato soup and grilled cheese which was delicious. Winston went to geenbergs cupcakes up on 84th? Street before we got there. We checked into the hotel and went to sleep.

Day 2 (Thursday): I saw two of my very good friends I know from camp, Jordan and Charlotte. I have not seen Jordan in person in over a year and was very excited to see both of them. We met at Charlottes apartment, which was bigger than my entire house and really nice, waited for Jordan and when Jordan came we met them outside and exchanged Hello's and had a brief chat before going upstairs, I gave them a few drawings of their OCs which they really liked. The three of us then walked over to the subway station, Jordan had to hold my hand because "I don't want to lose you son you're too smol." We took it down to 41st and 9th then walked over to 6th avanue where there's an awesome Japanese bookstore called Kinokuniya books. It's three levels, the main level is books in English and Japanese, the upper level is manga, and the lover level is art supplies. We then walked over to Muji across from the NY public library, though we didn't find anything. After that we went up back towards charlottes house because Jordan had to leave around 4:00 and I was staying until 6:00. We walked through a cleaned up section of Hells Kitchen, and pointed out all the rainbow flags. We had a very nice time and are going to try and see each other whenever we're in New York.

Day 3 (Friday): Winston and I ate lunch at Tavern on the green in Central Park, walked down to the Nike store because he wanted to browse, and then back to the Japanese bookstore! We walked over a hundred blocks in total, and through the park. We walked from 41st and 6th to 88th and Madison, plus other cross streets and detours and such. We then got sandwiches at Eli Zabars, EAT and then off we went! It was a very fun trip.

Below are some pictures as well as a video (though I'm not sure if it will work)

Until next time,
Max

  1. No, the video doesn't work when you put it as part of a gallery.

You have to use the extra HTML/embed.

Or I think videos are inserted into the blog.

I've not really tried - mobile phones and such things.

Onto other things: is the blue-shirted one Jordan and the green-shirted one Charlotte?

    And that cake!

I also saw some horse-drawn carriages I do believe.

And that Kinokuniya books store. Legendary! And epic! Good reminder about the 6th Avenue.

    Muji is another Japanese-themed store?

Have good memories of Hell's Kitchen. Literary memories, at least. I read THE FOUNTAINHEAD and I am thinking of Gail Wynard who grew up in the Kitchen. It would be very cleaned up and gentrified after 80 years and more - that book is set about a hundred years ago.

New York crosswalks are very neat. I like the hand and the walk sign.

Is it good for bikes/did you see many cyclists?

I'll look up the cupcake store Winston went to.

And what is it you call sprinkles? Jimmies? Favours? Whatever they are the rainbow ones are delicious. I will admit to spreading Nutella on some bread and then rainbow sprinkles.

Central Park is wonderful of course. Glad you got some good times with Winston, Max. I hope he is not under too much pressure in school. Is he having a gap year?

You will see Jordan and Charlotte in New York when you go.

Zomato and Yelp are good for promotional links for curious readers.

    1. I'll try to upload it another way then.

Yes you are correct, Jordan is the one in blue, and Charlotte (also called Charlie) is the one in green.

      It was delicious!

There's usually quite a few walking around near the park.

It's amazing I'm going to go back next time I'm there.

Mugi is another Japanese store yes.

There are still areas of Hells Kitchen that would be inadvisable to walk through at night, but it has been gentrified.

Yes they are, they even have talking walk signs for people who are blind.

We saw some, NYC is a dangerous place for bike riding though.

      It's called William Greenbergs.

I call them sprinkles but I've heard other terms for them. Oh the Nutella and sprinkles on toast was something Abbie had when we went to King Richards Faire last year!

Yes it is wonderful. He's taking a gap year and isn't pressured about school.

Yes I will! And possibly my friends Jessica and Evan, and possibly Luke. The whole Camp dungeons and dragons group!

      Interesting, I've never used them.
