My cousins Bar Mitzvah was last Saturday and it was great! The service was in the morning and while it lasted two and a half hours it was entertaining. I'd rather do that again than be dragged to a confirmation service as I have been in the past. It was not a fun time, too much insense. My cousins Torah readings were very good and it was great to hear about his Mitzvah project. Zachary, his father Danny, and his grandfather Steve all play the Saxaphone and what they did was they went around to a retirement home and senior care facility and played for the elderly. Music is shown to help both mood and memory ren tension, which is important for people with dementia or Alzheimer's diseases. Afterwards there was Kiddush which served bagels and lox, rugula, salad, and some other food and treats...my favorite part was the bagels. It was a bit hard to hear Zachary's two younger sisters during the service as my hearing aids has died the night before and I did not have spare batteries but luckily I was close enough to lip read fairly accurate.
Now on to the much more exciting part! The party!!
The party was held at the same place Zach, Danny, and Steve played for the mitzvah project. It was a massive complex I believe called HebrewSeniorLife or HSL it's near the Rashi School. My other cousins (Zachary's aunt) husband owns a DJing business and while he want DJing himself it was his company who were in charge of everything. I talked with some family who I don't see often from Israel and Canada as well as with other family around here who I don't see as frequently as the others. It was very loud and somewhat overwhelming during the party but thanks to noise canceling headphones, figet toys, anti-seizure medication, and Adam turning down the music and finding a room without flashing lights it was all good! The food was excellent too once again. I had noodles with broccoli, carrots, and chicken and a small slice of challah bread. I ate in the quieter room with my cousins from Canada; Rhonen and Sharone, Adam who was going back and forth to check on his wife and son while his daughter ate with us, and my cousin husband Shamul who is by far the funniest family I have on that side except for maybe Steve.
Mazel Tov Zachary!!
Until next time,
Max
Hello Max!
ReplyDeleteLooking at the pictures of the bar mitzvah made me feel as if I were in a game of Laser Tag.
Yes - music does help with memory retention and creation. And the saxophone and its complexity.
Great to eat in a less stimulating room with those cousins of yours and funny relatives.
Good afternoon Adelaide!
DeleteIt did feel somewhat like that but more blue coloured light, normally if I play laser tag the light is green.
