Never saw it coming (Valan)

“Yuuri I'm mostly blind and I'm pretty sure even I would have noticed a massive object barreling toward me.” The two of us, Samantha, Isabelle, and Lucien sit around a table in one of the corner-clubs in Sadrith Mora. Though we happen to all be sitting in relatively close proximity, there is a few different conversations going on at once. Sam talks to Issy about what they're doing here, Lucian talks to Isabelle or to himself about nothing in particular other than rambling I have no context for, and Yuuri recounts the tale of the time he got in a bad accident as a child. “First of all I was two years old. Second of all you know me I'm terrible with paying attention to things, and third of all no.” He leans back in his chair and crosses his arms looking at me with a slightly annoyed expression. “And so what happened next?”

The owner of the club interrupts and clears our places silently before leaving us to continue our conversation. “I woke up in the hospital crying and in a lot of pain and had little to no control over the left side of my face and some of my left side in general. My parents showed up along with the doctor and nurses. They checked me out, the nurse gave me some medicine and a toy and I fell unconscious again. After I was discharged I went through intensive speech, occupational, and physical therapy and well...now I'm here?” He shrugs not knowing how to end the story. “Well that sucks.” Lucien interjects as the two of us sit silently. “Yep.” Yuuri replies simply. “Were you eavesdropping this entire time?” I ask and Lucien nods. “I’d go talk to Vicente but the void is...icky.” Yuuri and I laugh at his choice of words. “That's why I'm happy I'm a spectre even if no one will talk to me.” He elbows Isabelle in the ribs to prove his point. Though she still ignores him, to deep in conversation with Sammie to listen.

“I still don't get how you never saw it coming.” He shrugs helplessly “As I said I was two. Two year olds don't really pay attention to things like that.” I sink down into my chair. “I guess you're right.” I mumble glancing around the dimly lit room. “Did you take that thing you and Ali found to Neloth, Valan?” Isabelle gets my attention and directs me toward Sam, who had asked the question. “Yeah. He's looking into it now. He’ll have us come back whenever he's done. You know, usual procedure.”

The door to the corner club opens and a group of guards come in surrounding a cloaked figure. The guards come over to us and out of habit we ready out weapons, the guards disperse and the cloaked figure walks up to us and throws off their hood. It takes me a moment to be able to make out who the figure is but a sharp slap in the face confirms it. “Lady Bahrenziah.” I say rubbing my check “Always a pleasure to see you.” I give her a false grin which she returns. “Valan Velothi what have you done this time?!” She goes to hit me again but Yuuri stops her by grabbing her arm “I wouldn't my lady, he's already had it bad enough as it is.” He sits and Sam asks the former queen a question “Excuse me lady Bahrenziah. I'm not sure we know what you mean. What exactly do you imply with ‘what have you done this time’? He hasn't really done anything the past week and a half, he's been sick.” She walks until she's standing menacingly over me. “Always a trouble maker you are whether or not it's been recent you always go and muck something up.” She pokes me in the chest before turning away, the skirt of her dress shifting dramatically and she walks out of the club. The head of the guard patrol, a man named Anders, whispers an apology to me as they leave. “Well...I guess you never saw that coming.” Yuuri smirks at me and I start to get up with the aim of beating him but he bolts out of his chair and out the doors and so I chase after him yelling into the night. Leaving my three companions to continue their conversation, I'll come back for them later.

I miss Lucien Lachance...and Bahrenziah annoys me. Helseth is alright though. The title was a pun courtesy of a friend of mine, he is legally blind and likes to joke when he walks into things.

Until next time,
Max

  1. I liked Never saw it coming, Max.

I think I miss Lucien too.

Corner-clubs - remind me of the coffeehouse alternative universes which are all over the world of fan fiction.

Great to know about Yuuri as a two-year-old and how he knocked into things and over things.

And the therapy he received when he was young. I wonder if he formed relationships with his doctors and therapists?

    And Vincente and the void.

    Glad "that thing" was taken.

And even if you're sick you can have things done or do things.

I remember Anders from other stories.

And if you don't anticipate stuff...

There's more to seeing ... than seeing ... at least with our eyes.

Is there an Issy/Isabelle story coming up?

    Lucien the eavesdropper!

And I'm sure "we ready our weapons". Weapons do get readied out.

    1. I'm glad you did!

He's an easily missable character. I'm glad Bethesda included his spectre in Skyrim.

Corner clubs are the Dunmer version of bars and can be found mostly in Morrowind but also in areas with large concentrations of Dunmer like the Grey Quarter, a ghetto in the city of Windhelm where they are forced to live, or in the Cyrodilic city of Cheydinhall.

Yuuri was in a bad accident when he was little and has nerve damage from it mostly in his head and neck region. That is why his speech can be slurred and he occasionally drools without realizing it as the nerves controlling the muscles do not work how they should.

He has and he sees them quite a bit in his other job, aside from being an assassin he's a pediatric neuropsychologist and mainly works in developmental psych and assessing children for developmental delays and other disabilities, and so he works closely with some of his former therapists.

Vincente the vampire who lives in the void.

Neloth was very interested in the properties of the Stalhrim, as it's a rather unique material.

      That's is true.

This in fact is a different anders, an NPC made up by one of my tumblr friends. You're thinking of Anders the mage, Hawkes friend, and the person Fenris is not on the best terms with as they don't exactly see eye to eye on the subject of mages.

Seeing can be done using a variety of senses, touch, sight, and others. Together they help us access the world.

Hopefully, at least her character sheet should. I've already posted the Knights of the Old Republic duo and a blank one is queued. I've got a term paper due on May third that counts for most of my grade and so my priority will be with finishing and editing that before any creative writing can be in the process. Do you have any particular thing in mind for our raven haired hero? Or the less heard of assassin Isabelle Belet?

The Morrowind trio keeps numerous small weapons concealed on them at almost all times, you need to in Morrowind. It can be a rough and unpredictable place.

Best wishes with the term paper, Max!

I do have a few things in mind for Isabelle and Issy.

    1. Thank you!

What did you have in mind for them?

Also have you read the story before this? I believe you'll like it as at the end it gives us a bit of context on why Lucien and Issy are there in the first place.
