The Moon-Lit Dock (Valan)

Title explanation: Each character has some symbol associated with them. For example Anna has a dragon, Sam has the moon and Yuuri has Sakura blossoms. Valan has no particular symbol but instead has recurring places, themes, and multiple symbols. In this story the two main characters are Valan and Sammie, thus the symbol of the moon and the place of the Sadrith Mora dock come into play. Enjoy!

Eve O'Riley is a friend of mines character used with permission for crossover. Lucien Lachance, Almalexia, and Vivic are characters that belong to Bethesda game studios.

“My dad always liked it here.” I say softly to Yuuri as we stand leaning on the railing of the wooden dock. He looks at me likely wondering where the rather random comment came from. Yuuri looks me over for a few moments with blank eyes until finally he shrugs and looks away. “I can understand why.” He replies looking out at the calm water. I feel a pawing at my pant leg, it's that cat we found the other day. I shoo it away quickly and it hisses at me before running off. The moons, Masser and Secunda begin to rise making the dark water a blue silver colour. “Do you remember him very well?” I shake my head “Not much more than a hazy figure who had a tendency to get into trouble with my mother.” I laugh slightly noting the similarity between the two of us. Yuuri smiles but looks at me with sad eyes. “W-What's wrong?” I stutter confused. I did not think I did anything wrong. “That's very sad.” He says in a voice barely above a whisper and taking his leave walks back to find Sammie, leaving me alone on the moon lit dock.

I stand there leaning against the railing and tossing pebbles into the sea well into the night as I'm alone with nothing but my thoughts and the calm lull of the waves. I wonder what things would have been like had he stayed alive. We likely would have remained here and our entire lives would be different, I would have never met the people I call my friends, my father would have been in near constant pain or fear, and we might have lost everything anyways. After agonizing over the question for a number of hours I come to the conclusion that while the actual outcome is rather depressing, it was likely for the best. Throwing one last stone into the sea I head for home, Masser and Secunda in their nightly trip lighting my way.

Opening the door to the apartment I find Sam still awake. “Why are you up?” I ask hanging up my coat and sitting next to her. “Waiting for you.” She hands me a letter marked with the seal of a Dragon. “It's for you.” She remarks bluntly and hands me a letter opener. “Is it from Anna?” I ask ripping the paper and Sam confirms my question. Tearing the envelope I take out a somewhat crumpled and slightly burned letter, an accidental practice rather typical of our fire wielding friend. “What's it say?” Sammie asks leaning over my shoulder and I hand it to her “You can read her handwriting better than I can, you read it.” Sammie quickly scans the letter before reading it aloud.

Dear Valan,

I hope you are doing well. I wanted to bring to your attention of someone you might have use for a contact. We ran into a Breton girl a week or so ago who looked lost, we asked her where she was from and she said Morrowind, in particular . Apparently she's some sort of princess who was visiting with her girlfriend. Her name is Eve O’Riley and she's from outside Vivic City. Look her up you might find some use for her, or Diana her girlfriend. I believe Diana is a knight or mercenary, she was pretty heavily armed when we met her.

On another note; when will you be in Solitude again? The other day someone brought an artifact into the bards college I think you might find interesting.

Look for a girl around 21 years old with long brown hair very fair skin and blue eyes, she will likely be wearing a tiara or a silver bracelet and a blue cloak. That's Eve. As for Diana, think Olivia but taller and stronger looking.

Sincerely your friend,
Anna Lenox

Sam places the letter down on the table and crosses her arms. “Well, I read it. What do you think of it?” I tap my fingers together thinking, that name sounds vaguely familiar but I can't remember where I heard it. “Does that name sound like you've hear it before?” I ask and Sam nods “Yeah, Almalexia was mentioning her family the other day. They live like twenty minutes outside the city. Apparently her brother went missing some time ago and they don't know what happened. Rumors do that you know. People around the Ashlands still think I'm dead after I climbed out the moon door.” I stifle a laugh “I still can't believe you did that.” I smirk and Sam walks over to me “And I can't believe you fall down the stairs so often you have a cane for a reason.” She scolds and hits me slightly with a pillow. “Go to sleep it's late I'll see you in the morning. And don't wake Yuuri.” I give her a look “And what are you gonna do?” I ask as she sits at her desk and turns on the light. “Bed, Velothi!” She orders and reluctantly I obey.

Falling into bed I realize I happen to not be tired at all and no matter how hard I try I can't fall asleep. Instead I look out the still open window, Yuuri had left it open this afternoon after a particularly bad baking incident between involving the two of us. The cat had found its way home and sleeps peacefully in the corner of the dimly lit room. I think of what to do as I look out at the night sky. I hear a slight rustle outside and suddenly the view is eclipsed, and in its place stand Lucien and Isabelle. “Hi.” The pair says grinning

...What on earth are they doing here?

I will start queueing character profiles at some point later next week. I hope you liked it!

Until next time,
Max

Eve
