"And I'm the innocent one..." (Olivia)

*crashes and sounds as camera gets moved about. Olivia appears.*

Oh, hi there! I'm Olivia Curtin or Liv/ Livvy to my friends. Are you here for Storytime? Great! Last time it was with Valan, I believe? Well this time it's with me!

Now let me say a bit about myself, I'm 25 same as all my friends and I'm the youngest by 5 months. I have short brown hair and grey eyes, I'm 5,2 and I live outside of Riften in south eastern Skyrim. I'm originally from Daggerfall Highrock and grew up in Wayrest.

And you've probably met the rest of my friends or at least heard of them. So you know that their not exactly right in the head, but who isn't? And their awesome people. And yes their not totally innocent, two are assassins, at least three are thieves, they tend to swear, and they've killed people. Great. But you want to know what? I'm not exactly innocent either! Yes I know I'm likely told as the adorable sweet cinnamon roll to good for this world and in some ways I am, but, I too have flaws. Let's see *pulls out list* well, for starters I've killed people, My best friends are a theif and an assassin, I read and watch Game of Thrones, I swear, I've been in a few relationships, I've kissed a girl... Yeah I'm really really gay FYI. I've gotten drunk like twice, and once when that happened I woke up cuddling with my best friend in her bed and it was kind of awkward, but not super awkward because we're weird people. Umm, I punched a priest, but it was Erandur and he's my friend and my travel buddy so it's fine. And a bunch of other strange stuff like yelling at a giant or a dragon or... The sky, I was playing a game and the sky opened and it wasn't good. So you've read all of this and remember "I'm the innocent one!" Kind of. Abbie, Isabelle B and I are the only ones who've ever had alcohol before though and Carmen and I are the only ones who have kissed another girl.

Well I hope you liked the semi story of how I've been corrupted by the time I've been living in Skyrim, fun times. And I'm still the adorable cute INNOCENT one.

Bye! *camera goes black*

I- I don't know, this was Jacks idea I just wrote it.

Until next time,
M (And Jack!!)

  1. Priest-punching.

Less dangerous than what is going on in Rouen right now.

"The sky opened. It wasn't good".

Thank you for talking about your Skyrim life. It felt like a reality TV show to those of us on the outside.

The way Olivia is written - very engaging!

    1. It was lightly on the arm.

      True.

That was a reference to Dragon Age Inquisiton

      Well it's Liv talking. True.

She's cool. I tend to focus more on my main heroes (Xavier, Juliette, Lanriael, Valan, Issy and Anna) so I decided to give my side heroes some time (Abigail, Isabelle B and Livvy)

    2. Lightly. On the arm.

Yay for time with sub/side heroes. You are a true "Protector of the Sidekicks", M.

    3. Yes.

Yay side Heroes! How so? Explanation please? Most of my characters have sidekicks or are sidekicks to each other. Valan has Sammie for a sidekick and Xavier and Juliette work together, and Lanriael has her best friend Carmen and her girlfriend Sarah as sidekicks, as well as a new side character that I made today whose my D&D character, Everan Thenath, another altmer double agent and co worker of Lani.

    4. And Erandur kind of deserved it.

    5. True, any kind of pain isn't good.

      Thanks for the links!

  2. My characters aren't exactly innocent either. Then again, I have a tighter definition of "innocent" than most.

    1. I thought so. The funny thing with Livvy though is they started off all cute and sweet and eventually fell victim to the corruption that all my other characters got worked into them only Liv got it at much less intensity. No tragic backstory or death of family members, only the ocassional drinking, that minor incident with Erandur, and trying to figure out how to not get killed in the back streets of Riften.

      What's your definition of Innocent?

    2. My definition, more so "standard", of "innocent" is a state of lacking fear of the outside world due to ignorance.

    3. I like that idea of "lacking fear".

Jess Wilson and Lydia Brown have discussed this in recent times - that whole "they are blissfully unaware".

The point of all of us who get corrupted "at much less intensity" than those around us.

    4. I do too.

      Who are they?

      Very true.

    5. By my definition, Carmen is an innocent character. Alex somewhat fits the definition, but she's seen too much.

    6. Interesting. Olivia is somewhat similar to Alex in that way. Olivia started off in High Rock not really knowing how dangerous the world could be and then after getting ambushed and the events of Helgan, and meeting their friends they've seen to much of the world to be considered "completely innocent."

    7. It's also been interesting toying wih character responses. Caitlin, Jordan, and Landon have all experienced similar things in school with regard to their general treatment. However, they responded in different ways. Caitlin covered it up and retreated within herself pretending that getting kicked on a daily basis and being forced to wet herself was normal and that everyone experienced it. Jordan constructed another "persona" that rejected everything about school, pretending not to care. Landon lashed out through violence (plot spoiler), namely a mass shooting of his school. (End spoiler) Do you have any characters with similar experiences who react in completely different ways?

    8. Interesting, That's sad. And generally just not good for all three of them.

Most of my TES characters had troubled childhoods. Xavier and Juliette usually would try to blend into the shadows during school and social hours, but when alone would be vibrant and cheerful. Lanriael covered up how difficult things were for them and went about their day as usual, but always seemed a bit distant. Valan had the best childhood out of any of them in terms of schooling, as his school was a place filled with kids where no one was the same, and he was free to be himself. Issy was at first a happy(ish) child until her brother died when she was 7 and then retreated from social encounters, to dwell on the bad things, and after her younger sister died became somewhat of a stereotypical emo(ish) high school kid who wore predominantly black or grey, and listened to music on the bus all the way home sitting alone, and was most happy when it rained. Anna mostly just stayed away from the other kids, staying with her best friend Jillian, and later Jill's girlfriend Jordan as well. Almost all were horribly bullied and just dealt with it in very different ways.

    9. Also:

Steve covered his problems with his image as a star athlete and musician. He had hundreds of admirers, but no true friends he could trust his soul with. That image came with a cost, however. It caused him to be a jerk to the people he would later come to love, even his future soulmate. It took a dragon to shatter that persona.

I think Drowning in a Wave of Sadness is a perfect description of his character.

"And so that I am able to provide you with love, this greedy person that hides inside me would soon see that he would have to stop adoring everything that he is. This clumsiness was a creation of his." (JoyDreamer translyrics)

    10. Interesting. I had excepted Steve to have a lot of admirers but not hundreds! Who was he a jerk to? Andrew, Caitlin, Landon, other?

Interesting. Thanks for the except. I agree and think that does fit his character.

    11. So this greedy person creates clumsiness.

Jess Wilson is a parent who lives in Massachussetts. The elder daughter is a theatre lover and the younger daughter makes plays.

Lydia Brown is also based in the state. They are at law school at the moment where she made a campaign against restraints and seclusion.

Bullies and the Presumption of Competenece

      Ableism ... is violence

It's been great to read about the characters and how they deal with common and similar experience. Knowing your characters inside out...

    12. He used to hurt Caitlin on a regular basis by calling her some very ableist insults and stealing her things. That is hard to believe based on their current relationship (even for me, the writer).
