I'm not tired! (Fenris)

Hawke wrote to Leliana, urgently telling her the news.

“Dear Leliana,” the letter reads “I have some bad news, Alarian's in the hospital. Emergency surgery due to a burst appendices, not sure the exact reasons. The doctor said that they'll need to stay here a few more days. Come as quick as you can.

-Hawke.”

Ali is still asleep, it's mid morning by now. Garret's asleep in a chair by me, he's snoring a bit, I smack his arm and he wakes up “wha?” He rubs his eyes and runs a hand through his hair. “You were snoring, and it's nearly noon, you should have already been up, but I let you rest.” I say staring out the door, suddenly feeling rather tired. “Have you been up all night Fenris?” I nod and lean my head against my arm with a sigh, “Yes I have.” Hawke gets up and sits next to me on the bench by the window that I was curled up in a corner of. Garret puts an arm around me and pulls me closer to him “you should sleep Fenris, you look exhausted.” I take one last look at Alarian before sleep overtakes me and my eyes close.

“Fenris.” Someone whispers, I wake with a start and hear it again “Fenris!” I look around and my eyes focus again, I stand up and walk the few steps over to the bed that Ali’s sitting up in. “What?” I ask sitting next to them. The turn a bit towards me, trying to be careful of the still fresh incision in their side. “Okay, so Leli and Zev are outside talking with Hawke, I need you to get me three things.” Alarian says pointing to the door, I glance over and can see Garret a bit. “I'm listening,” I murmur still watching the door. Ali nods “Okay 1, I need my cloak, 2, I need that stuffed Halla that Krem made me, and 3, Please please please try to convince the nurses to let me walk around it gets really boring sitting here.” Alarian flops against the pillow at the end. “I'll get right on it. When Hawkes done talking you want Zevran and Leliana to come in and see you?” Ali nods vigorously, I mess up their hair “I'll see what I can do my friend.” They laugh.

“Excuse me, hi.” I tap one of the nurses on the shoulder, she turns around “hmm, oh hello. Did you need something?” I point to Ali’s room “the patient in room ten had a question on whether or not they can get up and walk around at all. Their names Alarian Cousland.” The nurse looks through some papers “well it doesn't look like they have any movement restrictions, it's says they need adequate rest and fluids, but doesn't say anything that they can't get up and walk around the floor.” I thank the nurse and then go find Leliana whose over near the door with Zevran. They notice me and usher me over “How are you? You look tired.” Leliana greets me. Why does everyone think I look tired I'm not that tired! Well, I mean I'm kind of tired but still, it's annoying! “I'm guessing Hawke already filled you in on everything?” Two nods well that's good at least. “Alarian asked me to get them their cloak and the stuffed Halla Krem made them. You wouldn't happen to have either of those would you?” I ask biting the inside of my lip. Zevran reaches into his bag and pulls out the stuffed animal and tosses me it, and Leliana follows me into the room, Zevran reappears shortly after. We walk in to find Hawke and Ali in the middle of what seems to be a rather intense game of Chess, “Checkmate. You lose Garret.” Ali moves a piece and takes Hawkes final piece off the board. The two look at us after they notice the three of us standing there. “Here's your stuff. I talked to the nurse, she said you can walk around with assistance.” I toss Alarian their things and they catch the cloak and the Halla lands next to them on the bed. I move out of the way and Zevran and Leliana step further into the room “Hi!!!” Ali waves and says excitedly. “You never the less continue to get into trouble don't you?” Leliana asks them, and they shrug in reply with a smirk on their face. Leliana rolls her eyes. “You want to get up and walk around?” Zevran asks leaning against the wall. “I never thought you'd ask!” Ali climbs out of bed and puts on their cloak, it's their trademark thing they nearly always wear it. Leliana helps unhook the IV and other wires and helps them get used to walking again, it's been a few days since they've been on their feet. “You two can go see what the rest of your insane rable are doing if you like.” Leliana says with a grin. Well she's not wrong about the insane part, crazy bunch of criminals. I glance at Hawke who nods and walks over to where I'm standing by the door of the unit, he puts his arm around me “come on Fen, let's go home.” We walk side by side, I glance back over my shoulder and see Alarian standing mostly on their own, beaming, they wave at me, and I smile back. Yes it's good to rest, it's important to do so in order to keep up ones strength, but one also needs time with others, up walking around, playing a game, just chatting. I think to myself as we walk home, Hawke opens the door and we walk upstairs and fall into bed, Maisie, the Dog comes and jumps up and lays down next to me, and starts licking my face. “Ah stop it Maisie!” I try to shove her off of me, Hawke calls her over to him and I sit up wiping the dog drool off my cheek. Hawke laughs “she's just saying she likes you Fenris.” And pats her head, Maisie barks happily and runs off out the door and down the hall, then trods back down the hall and into Bethany's room, probably trying to get her to play with her. I fall against the covers, once again aware of how tired I am, it's been a long day. I'm taking a nap.
