We went to the zoo

If you have never been to the Franklin Park Zoo near Boston I highly recommend it. Not only is there a variety of animals, including my brothers favorite; the Emu. When we went a few weeks ago it was not crowded or loud, which is good if you have sensory issues and social anxiety. It was surprisingly accessible, there were very few instances with stairs, auditoriums had the proper amplification, signs were printed in braille, and there were opportunities both to run and move around and also sit for a while.

Below are some of the pictures I took of the animals, the anteater was my favorite. The tail was very fluffy! The peacocks roaming around were very interesting too, as the only other place I've seen that happen was at the school my cousins husband was the former headmaster at.

Which animals were your favorite? Have you ever been to this zoo? Do you know of other accessible zoos?

until next time,
Max

I liked the oilbirds; civet and meerkats the best in Franklin Zoo.

I wonder if Winston enjoys many Australian animals and birds?

ZooDoo in Tasmania is an example of an accessible zoo. And I think the Smith Family have written about other accessible Australian zoos for travellers.

And was that sculpture a whole collection of stony fidget spinners?

Reading up, Sydney Zoo seems to be accessible too.

I tried to go to a zoo in Canberra and it was very expensive and privately owned!

The Stern link shows what makes a zoo accessible for different people.

    1. Very nice!

He loves Emu's and water-buffalos the best. He even has a stuffed animal of a buffalo! He can be very silly.

I've never heard of it, I'll have to look it up (and the smiths and their travels)

I believe it's some form of climbing structure, they did have a very nice playground with something for everyone though, it was fun.

      Accessibility is always great

Zoo's can be surprisingly expensive, it was 45$ for I believe one ticket though it might have been both.

I read that article, very interesting.
