“Ever get that feeling where your sanity is about to collapse?” I ask Valan taking a sip of my coffee. He looks at me with an obviously exhausted gaze. “That's my constant state.” Isabelle says entering the room and sitting down at the table. “Good to see you continue to eavesdrop on everyone's conversations.” Valan says sarcastically earning a slight laugh from Isabelle. Their demeanor turns friendly then and they chuckle and shake hands. Old friends those two, they've been through a lot. He turns to me then “To answer your question Lanriael, yes. Like Issy that's my typical state of existence. Why do you ask?” Isabelle concentrates on carefully pouring herself a cup of tea that sits on the table and leans in, seemingly eager to hear my answer. “Well...Anxiety is terrible and I hate it. I don't know, I've just been feeling like that a lot. Any advice?” Valan shrugs “Drink tea? Sleep? Usually if I feel like that I do both of those and try not to concentrate on how my sanity is paper thin and on the verge of breaking and that usually puts it at ease for a while.” He glances at Isabelle “Anything to input?” She shakes her head “I mean I'm a mess and usually end up curled into a ball bawling my eyes out or staring at a wall so I'm not the best to ask advice from…” She shrugs apathetically. “It can go either way.” Issy sits back in her chair and sighs “The problem with things like Anxiety and Depression, and even more with Panic Disorder is to you it really does feel like your world is tearing apart, crumbling down, even if that's not the case. Try to take care of yourself, Lani. That's all that really matters.” Valan nods in agreement “And we’re always around to talk, even if we’re far away.” Issy gives me a warm smile, I don't believe I've ever seen her do that, of course I've seen her smile but this seems more genuine. I laugh to myself “Who ever guessed I'd be seeking mental health help from two assassins?” That causes them to laugh too.
After finishing our conversation we split up, Valan goes to find Sarah and Carmen, Issy heads over to check in with Phillip as she had a question about a new enchanted object she found. I walk over to clinic to help my mother and find the place in chaos. I can feel my heart pounding faster with each passing second as I try to calm myself. “What's going on?” I ask a nurse who sits at the intake desk “New patient in pretty bad condition. Talk to the two over there they brought the patient in.” She points to two people around my age sitting anxiously near the corner, one being a ginger dressed in various shades of green and seems calmer than her companion, the other being a brown haired man who looks around seemingly terrified. I take a deep breath and walk over to them “Hello. My name is Doctor Lanriael Cohen, I was told you brought in a patient.” I offer my hand and the red head stands and shakes it “My name is Adriana Rownan. I don't know how we got here but our friend was in pretty bad condition…” She goes to speak again but I stop her “Follow me and we’ll discuss more privately. Your friend is in good hands I assure you. She’ll be alright.” The two stand and follow me to an empty clinicians office. I sit at the desk opposite from Adriana and her companion. “This is Kadison Allon by the way.” Adriana says patting him on the shoulder “You can call me Kad.” He says shyly. I flip through a series of records looking for the recent and current hematology patients. “What's your friends name? I'm trying to find her record.” I ask not looking up from the clipboard “Lucie Dracond.” I flip to the “L” section and quickly find her name. The general information is hard to read due to the paper being torn. “Does she have any other conditions we should be aware of besides the sustained injuries?” I ask and they nod. “Her uh sanity isn't the best…” Kad trials off “She's schizophrenic. It is currently being mostly managed but at times her mental state can be a bit paper thin. Her words can get scrambled in a mix of intelligible and gibberish sentences and she can be a bit paranoid.” Adriana explains and I write that down quickly. “Thank you for the explanation, I'll have psychology come down once the doctors are finished if that's alright with you.” Adriana and Kad nod. “And one more question-” I say standing up, they look at me. “Why’d you bring her to a pediatric department?” They shrug “Originally we brought her to the ER but they had no room so they sent us here.” I write that down too, keeping it in the back of my mind to go yell at the coordinator later. “Thank you. You can go back to the waiting room if you wish.” They thank me and exit the office, immediately after I bang my head against the desk in a fit of anxious rage. “Why did I ever go into medicine?!”
Medicine is a tough field.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it is. Especially certain parts of it.
