Flash Fiction February Day 4 Legend (Valan)

 Day 4 Legend:

In Dunmeri myth there speaks of a person called the Nerevarine, who is said to have been created by the Daedric Prince of Dusk and Dawn, Azura, in order to reincarnate her ancient champion Indoril Nerevar in order to bring the warlords murderers to justice…and apparently, that’s me, Valan Velothi, the legally blind kid from Sadrith Mora. Now, you’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation, so let me go back to the beginning…

One day while out and about in the Imperial City where I had lived for the past twenty years after leaving Morrowind at the age of 3 with my mother, living in Cheydinhal for two years before finally settling in the Imperial City market district at the age of 5 I was arrested, supposedly for trespassing but if you ask me I call BS unless I accidentally stepped on someone's front lawn. After being thrown in jail the emperor at the time Uriel Septim decided oh no we can’t just let him go or keep him in there we have to deport him! And that my friend is how I ended up back in my homeland wildly unprepared with a newfound hatred of boats. Having been dropped into a new place I began to do whatever jobs I could find, eventually stumbling upon the Nerevarine prophecy and after a trip into the ashlands which I would never like to do again it was found out that oh, you’re the Nerevarine, cool, now go defeat this big bad scary guy named Dagoth Ur and also get rid of the Tribunal who have been running the country for millenia. Naturally, I was not overly thrilled about that and decided to pay a visit to the one person I know who personally knew at least one member of the tribunal, master wizard Divayth Fyr.

After a lot of going back and forth with “what?!” and “..what?” Fyr was able to give me a bit of direction, later curing me from a really rather awful disease called corpus and accidentally giving me immortality which has proven very useful not only for myself but also my friends, and playing a rather major role in my ability to complete my divine quest, or whatever the daedric equivalent is, thus leading to my semi-legend status, which is still much more legendary in works written before my eventual arrival as most people are not particularly impressed when they see who really destroyed Dagoth Ur and ended the reign of the Tribunal. No matter my legend status I have enough people who simply know me as that one kid from Sadrith Mora, or the friend of Neloth that crazy old mage or Eno Hlaalu’s current cause of chronic headaches that I can go about my own business with relative ease. That being said, the recognition every now and then is nice, particularly among the Ordinators who may or may not let me off with a warning every now and then, and it’s still better than being entirely forgotten. Speaking of forgotten legends…have you ever heard of the Eternal Champion?
