A Lazy Summer Day (Issy)

We got hit with a terrible heat wave last week so that was the inspo for this lazy very very short fic written at four AM.

Prompt: Lazy day

Eugh, who knew Cyrodiil got heatwaves? Rolling out of bed and squinting at the thermometer on the wall it reads a temperature far too hot already for this early in the day. It’s not even eleven o’clock in the morning, and yet I have no energy for anything. “Baurus, are you awake?” I ask knocking on the door which slides open revealing Baurus already awake. “How are you not roasting?” The blade shrugs and mentions something about how Hammerfell gets much warmer than this in the summer. Martin I see also sitting in the room attempting to find a comfortable position to read, which thus far is on the wood floor with his sleeves rolled up and more dressed down than I’ve ever seen. He still wears his usual blue robe but it seems baggier than usual, most likely missing the layer or two that usually go underneath it mostly for warmth and partly for modesty. He used to be a priest after all, and clergy tend to prefer modesty where possible.

Baurus invites me in to the little room, plopping down on the bedroll in the corner dressed in his usual green shirt and trousers. “What are you doing today?” I ask as I pour a glass of water from the pitcher on the side table and take a seat by the desk “Absolutely nothing” Martin replies, not looking up from his book, which I can see is all about Daedra. “We’re being lazy.” Baurus adds, leaning back against the wall with a sigh “Jauffre didn’t come by with any orders and it’s too hot to train and too dangerous to go into Bruma” the redguard explains “And so we’ll just sit around here doing nothing and try not to get heat stroke.”

That’s a good plan, unfortunately for me I need to head to Cheydinhal, Vicente has a contract for me. Bidding the two farewell I quickly check in with Jauffre to see if he needs anything before setting off. It’s rough to ride in the heat and both the horse and I need to stop every so often for breaks to drink or rest, but I make it to the quiet little town by dusk.

The sanctuary being underground and made of stone makes it somewhat cooler, but still rather warm. After eating dinner and catching up with the vampire I receive the contract details and decide to head to bed. “I need a lazy day” I mutter to myself as I quite literally collapse into bed, I’m always running around here and there with no time to rest. I could use my well overdue break, a nice lazy day all to myself. Hypothetical scenarios fill my head as I fall asleep, a day off would be nice indeed.
