Flash Fiction February 2023 Day 5: Interference With Time (Juliette)

A/N: Another short one for today, a little excerpt from Juliette's diary of sorts :)

 Prompt: Interference With Time

Whenever one hears of something brewing in an already politically unstable section of the world it’s cause for worry. The various kingdoms, fiefdoms, and other feudal lands of High Rock have never gotten along causing the country to be fragmented without much if any semblance of unity outside of a shared cultural heritage, and even that depends on geographical location. Originally I thought my orders would be the standard assignment, but upon receiving the full set of details, and the ship I had taken to Daggerfall crashing unexpectedly that threw any notion of normalcy out the window. Such is the life of a Blades agent, especially one that works away from the public eye.

My mission had been comprised of two main tasks, the first to track down a letter that had gone missing and deliver it to its intended recipient, then the second and larger problem of getting the recently deceased kings spirit to lay to rest, which lead to tracking down the necromancer Mannimarco who for some strange reason seems incapable of not causing problems every few centuries, and the attempting to deal with the larger problem still of the political unrest. All that came to a conclusion when I was sucked into Atherius in order to retrieve a special item known as the Mantella, a place out of time and space, where realities converge on each other and nothing seems quite real. There I saw a number of realities as they occurred simultaneously with each other, in some the Bay kings are defeated, in others the Imperials take control, and in some the Orcs take the victory. It was all a very strange interference with time and when I get spat out again back into the typical world I find it changed, they say “the warp in the west” has occurred, the Orcs having driven back enemy forces have been granted the right to self determination, the Imperial Empire remains in control of Tamriel having put to rest the conflict, disunity and rebellion of the tiny warring kingdoms of the west, and Mannimarco becomes a sort of god as he intended.

All in all, my first trip back home to Daggerfall after quite some time away was more than eventful, and I’ve recently discovered that as time has gone on as a result of being spat out of Atherius I no longer age, and seemingly cannot die. This could be useful, now if only Jauffre would reply to my letter about being stationed somewhere else on my next assignment. I was trained for black ops, infiltration, and espionage- not meddling with time!
