Somehow I made it another year

Title is self explanatory, somehow I made it another year around the sun as today's my 22nd birthday! While I was home a few weeks ago we went out to celebrate by taking a ride up to to the north shore and I got this really cool variation of an Affogato? It was ice cream covered in this chocolate shell and they poured the espresso over it and it came with the little cookie, highly recommend if you're ever in Gloucester!

Today I'm spending doing less fun stuff, like looking over course schedules and writing my next crusade rpg game character speech, but hey, I made it another year...I guess that's something to celebrate.

Excuse the steroid induced moon face and haircut, my hair does weird things the first couple of days after it gets cut before going back to its natural slightly wavy state.
Here's to hoping that 22 is better than 21 was because I think aside from having friends again and being able to afford school it was probably the worst year health wise since 13-14 which is saying...something.

Later today I think some friends and I are planning to have a little joint celebration as another friends birthday is tomorrow (two of my friends birthdays are tomorrow actually, its a strange coincidence) so that should be fun, especially if they took the idea from my pulmologist and actually got a cake that says "good job not dying" on it.

Until next time,

Max

  1. Happy birthday to the 28 March 2023 celebrators!

    And to you of course.

    Summer Solstice eh?

Affogato is cool on any terms - one of the nicer Italian desserts - along with ice cream cake; sorbet; tiramisu.

    And the ESPRESSO!

What courses are in your schedule at the moment? for the next semester?

"The worst year health-wise since 13-14".

I love your pulmologist's sense of humour.

[if your friends have similar dark humour...]

If a potato or a dead person can do anything ...

Hope you had a great celebration with those friends of yours.

Steroids and weird hair [actually, mine does much the same - in the case of washing].

There is that wonderful movie coming out about Dungeons and Dragons [it may have released some months before in the USA].

[actually - it hasn't - it's in the future and Australia followed the UK release timeline].

Good luck with that campaign of yours!

    Tell us more about Crusade?

    1. Thank you!

Tiramisu is always a good choice. I rarely have affogatos (caffeine and movement disorder don’t exactly mix well) but thankfully this one was decaf and worked out fine.

Currently I’m only taking three courses to ease back into school after spending the fall semester home because my mast cells decided to try and colonize my body (thankfully they are better controlled now with ongoing treatment and monitoring) but I’m taking Medieval History, Digital Photography, and The Historians Workshop. Medieval History so far has been my favorite, the Professor is wonderful. Historians Workshop is interesting the course itself is split into three parts 1. The theories of approaching history (empiricism, psychoanalysis, poststructualist, etc.) 2. Oral Histories and how to do them along with the ethics of history we are currently reading a very interesting book called “Historians in trouble” for this part and 3. Careers in history

Next year is still undecided but at the moment the courses I’m considering are the following:

      Fall:
Intro to history (I did the major backwards and began with upper level courses)
      Roman history
      Origins of East Asia
Potentially an independent study or one of the following classes: African American history 1619-1865 or Europe 1715-1890

      Spring:
      Medieval Art
      Elements of Design
Crusade & Holy War in Medieval Europe
      History of Black Television

He has a very fun sense of humor, makes appointments much more interesting. When I last saw him it was raining and the first thing he said to me was “It’s rainy out…did you bring the boat?” Followed by when discussing a medication *gestures to immunologist which joined us* “Oh he’s too young to know what it is. This medication is older than god.”

My friends also have dark humor, they’re quite amusing and our quote log is full of some very amusing entries.

We had a lovely time and are planning a bigger celebration as there are four of us with birthdays all in very close proximity to each other.

Steroids are very strange things, they help, but at what cost?

I haven’t seen much promotion for it, though I also haven’t been to the movies since at least 2019. I think the last movie I saw in a theatre was the Winnie the Pooh movie about grown up Christopher robin? If it’s still playing in theatres when I get back I may try and see the movie a family friend of ours made “Four Winters” it’s a documentary.

Thank you! Unfortunately we ended up sacking Constantinople but it was a close vote at the end after I was the last to give a speech on why we shouldn’t attack. The vote I believe was 18-16 in favor vs opposed.

The fourth crusade was an absolute mess for a variety of reason but most notably pope Innocent excommunicated the ENTIRE army after they sacked Zara for the Venetians (who provided the boats) because Zara was under control of the Hungarian king, a converted Latin Christian. Due to the truce/peace of God which prevented Christian’s fighting each other while it was in action the sack of Zara was a big no-no and made Innocent very unhappy. The crusaders were later forgiven after sacking Constantinople because the Byzantines did not think the Roman pope was the real pope and with a vacancy in the East there was space for Innocent to try and reunite the east and west of Christiandom, which the crusaders offered in exchange for being allowed back into the church.
