Flash Fiction February Day 3 To Sit And Watch The Stars (Valan)

Prompt: Stars

Contrary to popular belief, being blind does not mean living in a world devoid of all light and color. Though that is the case for some people with “Total Blindness” most blind or visually impaired people retain their ability to sense light and color, including myself. I personally have the ability to sense light and color normally, where I am termed legally blind is my lack of ability to see things clearly except at a very close range. Large shapes I can make out at a distance a normal person would be able to see clearly, and overall my visual field is blurry, like someone took a microscope out of focus. I remember when Talvas first became Neloths apprentice and was a bit concerned about my wandering around in the lab, even if Tel Mithryn has a guard rail around the levitation shaft. Most likely he thought I was totally blind, and it wasn't until I remarked about how beautiful the stars looked one night that he realized oh, he can in fact see some things. Neloth of course knew the entire time and the old man just never bothered to tell Talvas oh yeah Valan actually is legally blind not totally blind he’s fine just give him the large print or braille books and let him do what he wants. It has been awhile since I’ve been to Solstheim I think to myself as I lay on the ground looking up at the stars. Masser and Secunda can be seen easily, making their slow journey across the sky, currently hovering over the Imperial City. Despite being all the way in Bruma, where I had stopped after crossing the border from Skyrim on my way to visit my mother the White Gold Tower is visible, as it is from most parts of Cyrodiil, the light of the stars overhead illuminate it slightly, with a sharp color contrast of white stone against the black night. Ever since childhood I have had a fascination with the stars and the night sky, the northern lights that can be seen in most of Skyrim are perhaps my favorite, and after being shipped back to Morrowind all those years ago there is an even more ironic point of view for my love of the stars. I wonder if Nerevar liked to sit and watch the stars at night, his title after all was Moon and Star…A question for Divayth Fyr I suppose. As the night passes I find myself unable to sleep, and as a result quietly think and contemplate life, a rare moment of rest to sit and watch the stars.
