Torn (Lucie)
I wake up in a hospital bed utterly confused as to where I am. The last thing I remember is being dragged to an emergency room before blacking out. Kad sits cross-legged on the end of the bed reading something while I notice Adriana sleeps curled up on the window seat. I go to sit up and they realize I'm awake and seem to be happy enough. “What happened?” I ask touching my forehead to try to get the throbbing pain to stop. “Oh you had a hallucination episode, freaked out, and nearly got yourself killed after we were ambushed.” Kad explains putting the book down. Huh, so that's why I feel like I'm torn into a million pieces. Because I was quite literally torn to pieces. “Also just so you know you're being cared for by the pediatric team because they're overbooked with beds otherwise. Your doctors name is Lani, she seems nice.” Adriana begins to fuss over me now that I'm awake, a typical thing she does if either of us get sick or injured. My thoughts begin to shift though I manage to keep things at bay and become distracted when there's a knock at the door. In steps a doctor around our age and a little taller than myself. “Hello. Glad to see you're awake.” She says placing a clipboard down and adjusting her name tag which reads a name I can't quite pronounce in my own head. “My name is Doctor Lanriael Cohen. But, you can call me Lani.” The doctor introduces herself and I shake her hand. “How are you feeling today?” She asks sitting next to the bed and moving the chair closer to me. I shrug “Alright I guess. I feel like I've been torn in two and my head hurts but otherwise I'm fine.” The doctor laughs “You sound like a friend of mine, he's said that exact thing. I'm glad you're at least feeling better. We should have you all better in a few days.” I don't know what happened to their friend but I'd rather not feel that way. The doctor does a quick examination then sends for a psychologist or psychiatrist to understand more about what caused the injury in the first place. “Excuse me for a moment. The psych is right outside I just need to talk to him about something unrelated. He’ll be in shortly.” Lanriael leaves and begins speaking with a grey skinned fellow, they seem friendly enough, perhaps he’s her friend too. The psych comes into the room shaking Kad and Adriana’s hands before sitting next to me and placing his bag down. “I'm just going to say that I don't do this kind of thing very often I just happen to be visiting from my home country and Lani needed help.” He explains before offering his hand “My name is Yuuri Seki. I'm a neuropsychologist.” Based on the dark hair and red eyes it's safe to assume he's Dunmer but by the subtle accent it's likely he's from the mainland. Yuuri pulls out a notebook and politely asks Adri and Kad to step out so we can talk privately. “So you've got schizophrenia is that correct?” He asks toying with his pen and reading over the report. “Yes, it's mostly managed but sometimes the occasional delusions or hallucination episode happen. Most of the time I can ignore it if something starts while I'm on medication. For day to day things I mostly just feel disoriented and on bad ones like I'm being torn into multiple different directions.” Yuuri writes notes diligently. “The comment about being torn is particularly interesting, to me at least. I work mainly with children with developmental issues but I do have a patient that experiences a similar feeling. I'm going to refer you to the main psych centre to look more into that but as for unraveling the cause of your episode, you had said earlier you had run out of medication, it's likely at least in part due to that.” Yuuri explains and tears a piece of paper out and gives it to me, the referral. “It was nice to meet you. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go break someone out of a facility.” He says packing up his things. I can't tell if he's serious or joking. Yuuri bids me good day and exits the room running down the hallway passing Lani who comes in again. “He’s a bit strange I'll admit but he's good at what he does.” She says leaning up against a shelf causing me to laugh. “It's okay Kad’s probably weirder.” I reply laying back against the pillow. At least the people here are nice, much better than being stuck in that last hospital. I wonder what Yuuri meant when he had to break someone out of a facility. What facility?
