What the A in LGBTQIA+ stands for/ what it needs to stand for...

And Jacks back... Hello.

Today I'm doing a (somewhat) more serious post about Asexuality and other issues related to the A in LGBTQ+ Community and just society in general. For those of you who don't know Asexuality is the lack of sexual/physical attraction. It does NOT mean lack of ROMANTIC ATTRACTION! I am Asexual (Ace) and also Aromantic (Aro). Aromantic means lack of romantic attraction. Someone can be Ace but still Hetro/Homo/Bi/Pan/A/Demi/Grey romantic. Some examples in books/movies/tv include Greyworm from ASOIAF, every single one of our TES characters is asexual and Carmen is Demi-Homoromantic,Anna,Farkas,Issy and Lucien are all Demi-Hetrotomantic and the rest are Aromantic. Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games is thought to be asexual. In Sherlock that exactly it, Sherlock is Ace too. So what the LGBTQ+ letters stand for are as follows, Lesbian,Gay,Bisexual,Transgender,Questioning,Intersex,Asexual/Aromantic/Agender+.
Wait what?! What's Agender you may ask? Agender is also known as Nonbianary or genderfluid. It means that one identifies as neither Male nor Female. It does not mean Transgender!!! Examples of Nonbianary people in books, games, movies or real life include: Oberyn Martel from ASOIAF, Xavier Stephenson, Lanriael Cohen (kind of, she's questioning/NB) Samantha "Sammie" Arryn and Carmen Smith from TES (some of our Original Characters), and a few people from our school, I will not use names to protect privacy. Meredith is even debating it (she's between identifying as a girl and identifying as NB. She's questioning because she is female but likes some "boy things" too. So she's not very "girly" but doesn't identify as a boy. It's confusing. She will probably stay identifying as a girl though.) The thing is Ace,Aro and NB communities don't get much visibility or in some cases aren't known about. 1% of the world population identifies as Asexual, that's a very small amount but we still deserve the same respect and visibility and rights as everyone else. Agender is not widely known about either as it has come up more in the past few years. If you happen to know anyone who identifies as Ace,Aro,Genderfluid or anything  else please support them because it can be very hard to live in a world where people either don't know or respect your identity/orientation.
Especially because those who identify as NB can also feel dysphoric in the body they are in (a kid in our grade recently changed their/her [im unsure of the kids pronouns but they are female] name to a more gender nutural name/nickname than their original name) Gender dysphoria means you do not feel comfortable in the body that your in. In someone who is Agender they do not feel comfortable in either gender. So if you know someone who is LGBTQIA+ please support them because it really can be hard to deal with sometimes.

If you would like more information feel free to ask

Thank you for listening/reading

  1. It's thanks to you guys that I found out that I'm demisexual! I don't feel attracted to guys that haven't proven themselves worth my time.

    1. Always happy to help a friend. Demisexuality is part of the Asexual spectrum so welcome to the dragon club! We have a friend (Abbie) who is Demisexual too. I for one don't feel attracted to anyone aside from platonic (friendship) but I can find people anestheticly pretty without feeling attracted to said person.

    2. Same here. It's like finding saxophone music pleasing to the ear without wanting to play the saxophone.
