A story in which Valan meets Gandalf and fast forwards to him bringing Valan along with the company of Thorin Oakenshield. Valan breaks the forth wall/makes a few references throughout.
"And who is this little fellow?" Mithrandir asks with a smirk. I pick Valan up so he doesn't run away and turn to him. I introduce Valan to Gandalf, "This 'little fellow' is Valan. Say high Val." I pick up his arm and wave his hand "say hi, it's ok. This is Mithrandir, Gandalf. Can you say hi to Gandalf?" Valan babbles something and smiles, he can't really speak yet but at least he's making noise, better then what the doctors originally thought, and he can kind of see...ahem, emphasis on "kind of". Mithrandir turns from looking at his staff to ask me "Sarah, have you and Ben exposed him to magic at all yet? I'm curious, if so what did he think?" I try to think if we did and coming to the conclusion that we did, I mean the kids nearly 2 how couldn't we! And I say "Most likely yeah. He seemed to be intrigued, I mean he's a wizard and a sorceress's son how couldn't he!" Mithrandir laughs. Valan tries to wiggle himself out of my arms I manage to keep him in place saying to mithrandir "you know he might be small but he's pretty strong!" I eventually give up and put him down making sure he doesn't go anywhere though, the square is a busy place. Gandalf and I talk for a while longer before he says he must go but not before he kneels down and whispers something to Valan. To this day I'm still not sure what he said. But it must have been important.
Fast forward 23 or so years (Valans 25) to Gandalf and Valan traveling to the shire
"Gandalf, where are we?" I ask looking around. "We have just crossed over into The Shire, my dear friend. The realm of hobbits. Hobbits are a gentle folk..." I interrupt him "yes yes I know what hobbits are, I've read Lord of the Rings." Gandalf sighs "Your just like your Father, always interrupt me when ever I'd lecture him. Well I guess this isn't a lecture as such but more information. And I would call the shire a realm but more of a place. The word realm implies large grand places, and well..the shire isn't that." I laugh at the statement. We get to hobbiton around 7 o'clock or so, I meet some of the rest of the company, there all dwarves. Now, your probably thinking "Oh stereotypical elf who doesn't like dwarves!" When in fact I have no problem with dwarves, that's not saying they don't have a problem with me. "Who's the Elf?!" One asks. "What's with his hair, why's it the color of blood??" Another asks "whys his skin dark, and what's with the stick? Gandalf you didn't truly bring an ELF with you???!?!" Well this will be interesting. Mithrandir explains who I am and that I'm an old friend of his. After that the dwarves seem to like me more. A few go up "the hill" to Bag End, the residence of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit. After a few minutes Gandalf collects the rest of our company and myself and we walk up towards Bag End, I stay more to the back with Gandalf rather then up front with the rest of my new companions. The dwarves ring the doorbell an obnoxious amount of times, this poor hobbit. Until the door opens and they all go tumbling down in a pack, glad I wasn't in the front. The hobbit gives a look but invites us in anyways. Now if you know anything of hobbits (or dwarves for the matter!) is they LOVE food. Like they love food as much as Dunmer like fire and Bretons like conjuring stuff, or nords like weapons and the list goes on. So the dwarves start having a party in this strangers home and eat all his food and to quote Bilbo himself of what he said to me "There's mud trod into the carpet! They, they've pillaged the pantry. I'm not even going to tell you what they've done in the bathroom they've all but destroyed the plumbing..and I don't understand what there doing in my house!!!" Poor guy, at least at the end they wash his dishes *shrug* then the doorbell rings. It's Thorin, King of erebor. He's not exactly thirilled with Bilbo or Me and blames Gandalf. His words I believe were "You brought an elf? You brought an Elf. You brought a visually impaired elf (I can still fight you know) your still blind. Uggghhhh sddhhdgkddadgh." I glance at Mithrandir who whispers "he'll take some getting used to." I nod. After a while they give Bilbo the contract, he faints all that stuff and then we go back to where were camped. The next day we leave early in the morning and Bilbo runs after us. He catches up and says he wants to come too, so we "Give him a pony." I ride alongside Gandalf and we chat about magic stuff for a while. After around 3-4 hours we stop and take a rest. I get bored and go hack at a tree with my conjured sword. Mithrandir comes over and says to me "don't use to much of your strength Valan. You'll need it." Now what on earth could that mean?
I had an idea and ran with it and it turned out longer then expected.
I hope you liked it! What did you think of Sarah, Valan's mother?
I wish Valan's mother was my mother!
ReplyDeleteSame here! She's awesome! A quote she said when Valan was little "One day Mommy's gonna tell you all about direwolves, the one true ring and wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff!"
Delete"Why??"
"Because mommy is a nerd, and nerds are cool."
Alice's Parents: Work hard, do the right thing, and you'll be happy.
DeleteAlice: Yeah, right.
I agree with Alice. I work hard and try to do the right thing, am I happy? Not really.
DeleteAnd as for what Gandalf said about Benjamin always interrupting him, it's pretty true :)
