Flash Fiction February Day 18 The Many Affiliations Of Color (Valan)

 Day 18 Color:

Most people unfamiliar with the culture of Morrowind fail to realize the importance of color when it comes to a variety of matters ranging from social status to Great House affiliation to guild allegiance. Each Great House for example has their own unique colors, Telvanni have brown and purple, Hlaalu mostly have gold, I do not remember what color House Dres uses, and the Redoran are distinct for a variety of reasons, colors included. Additionally, color plays a role in distinguishing social status, the more expensive the fabric of clothing, the more vibrant the color, and therefore the wealthier the person…I don’t bother with that aspect of things, though, instead I leave that to the politicians and nobility and prefer things that are alright with being dirty and covered in ash before they get thrown in the wash. Has that way of thinking backfired on me before when I get mistaken for a poor servant or mine worker? Yes, but only once or twice. The guilds of various kinds have their own meanings when it comes to color affiliation, The Morag Tong prefers red, right down to the wax that Eno uses to seal writs that have been approved, The Camonna Tong uses red as well, though to a lesser degree, they’re thieves rather than assassins…but sometimes I think they might be trying to do a bit of both. The Mages Guild who I don’t interact with much due to my personal affiliation with the Telvanni seem to prefer blue, their synthetic flames and apprentice's robes seem to be that color whenever I end up visiting a chapter on an errand. All in all, the average outlander fails to appreciate the subtleties of Dunmer culture when visiting, and can sometimes end up looking like an idiot as a result. Now that you’ve had a basic layout of the various affiliations that relate to color the next step is understanding honorifics, and then politics. Welcome to Morrowind, Outlander.
