Flash Fiction February 2024 Day 9: What Lies Beyond (Lucien)

A/N: A very very short one for today (very much in the realm of flash fic) as I am drowning in paper reviews and Valentines Day shop orders that need to be shipped out this weekend, but I hope you enjoy! This prompt was an interesting one and probably a topic I will come back to at another point to explore more.

Prompt: We are not bound forever to the circles of the world, and beyond them is more than memory

Over the millennia different cultures have come up with their own ideas regarding what happens after death. Some are bound by cultural practices or moral and religious ideologies, others rooted in ancestor worship, and some believe that nothing happens- only a vast expanse of nothingness. It seems there is no one true answer and where one ends up after death is as unique a situation as the person was in life. The Nordic warriors feast and battle until the end of time, those who sold their soul to the Daedric Princes spend an eternity in their realm as servants, the restless dead wander the realm of the living. Particularly useful members of the Dark Brotherhood end up as Spectres, continuing to uphold the tenants even when the body has long since wasted away into nothing. Steadfast, the Dunmer ancestor's guard their descendants and the land, with unwavering eternal vigilance. While we are not bound forever to the circles of the world, what lies beyond is more than simple memory. All fades, turning to a sheet of silver glass, before revealing what lies beyond.
