I'm starting to learn ASL!

My hearing teacher earlier this week decided to start teaching me ASL which stands for American Sign Language. I knew a few simple signs but now we are doing more of the actual signs. I learned how to sign I agree/I disagree, drink/water, no, eat and I can't hear you/ I have hearing loss. It is actually pretty fun. We also worked on a few letters which were C,O and Y because there the simplist  ones to learn when your beginning. We are also continuing on lip reading.

P.S this is my 100th post!!! Yay!

Until next time,
Meredith

    1. I suggest you learn it it's fun! There is also an ASL club at the high school which I'll be going starting next September.

    2. That would be a great club to join. I have this weird fear that everyone else in the class would think I was like some expert because I have hearing loss. People assume everyone who has a hearing aid signs. It's an irritating stereotype. Good luck with lip reading. My loss is minor enough I have not had to learn that, it looks quite difficult.

    3. My brother says that he thinks I would like it. That's an annoying stereotype. It is difficult especially because a lot of sounds look similar when people are talking. I mostly taught myself but ms Boyle and I work on lip reading to. My hearing loss is in the mild-moderately severe to severe range so we are giving me different communication options for receptive language assistants. We also have a buddy system that when the teacher is trying to get the classes attention my friend tony will tap me on the shoulder or something like that and tell me to look at the teacher. Some of my friends and family are also starting to learn ASL so they can communicate with me.

  2. I know some signs like the alphabet and specific words. I'd also like to learn international Morse code, tactile sign language, and any other language I can get my hands on.

    1. I know some basic signs from when I was little and now I'm learning the actual language. Moorse code would be fun to learn.

  3. Congratulations on your 100th post, and on learning ASL! I have always wanted to learn ASL. I even took a class in college once. I need to get back to learning it some more.

    1. Thank you! I like learning it partly because it gives me an alternate method of communication and partly because I can say stuff and no one will understand what I'm saying if they can't sign. On Friday I signed the entire alphabet and numbers 1-9 while looking at a sheet.
