Some people find cities at night to be unsettling, scary even, I however find it to be oddly peaceful. No bustling people everywhere doing all sorts of things with little regard for others, less patrolling guardsmen looking for anyone who even looks the smallest bit suspicious, and no annoying tourists getting lost at every turn. High above the streets I sit on one of the flat rooftops of the Imperial City and let out a sigh, yes, this is much better than the city during the day. It’s quiet enough that I can hear and understand my thoughts for once without being interrupted every five minutes by another lost visitor trying to get to the Market District or the Arena. Tonight is clear and quiet, with only the duos of patrolling guards humming to themselves far below, not noticing me at all as I sit, letting my legs dangle from one of the rooftops. The stars shine brightly overhead, twinkling with their cold distant light, far away from the cares of the world and this city. The Imperial City is an odd city, when you think about it, at least from a Breton perspective, there is much less trade done by boat than I would have expected, even though there is a port. This city at night sometimes reminds me of Daggerfall, even if only because of its large swaths of lighted windows that can be seen from miles away. I sigh again, collecting my thoughts, I really do prefer the city at night. Suddenly, however, I’m ripped from my thoughts, and my pleasant moment, by a scream and the sound of a struggle. Pulling up the hood and quickly adjusting my armor I run off into the night. This may be a big city, and an even larger country, but by choice or by force, I am its protector…and nobody is getting hurt in my city tonight.
